Thirty-one-year-old Keaka D. Martin of Hilo, who was in police custody at Hilo Medical Center following his arrest for a Jan. 2 shooting that injured two Hawaii Police Department officers, has been discharged from the hospital.

Martin is being held at the Hilo police cellblock with no bail pending his initial court appearance scheduled for Friday afternoon, according to police.
Martin was charged on Jan. 4 with two counts of first-degree attempted murder, second-degree reckless endangering, place to keep a firearm, possessing a loaded firearm on a highway, two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, ownership/possession of a firearm prohibited, and altering the identification markings on a firearm.
The charges stem from a Jan. 2 shooting in downtown Hilo that injured two officers, according to police. Martin allegedly shot at the officers while they were checking parked vehicles in the area of the 800 block of Kilauea Avenue following reports of gun shots heard in the area.
